The name is an old Scandinavian last name stemming from the word Hawk.
The hawk is depicted as one of the animals which portray the griffin, a legendary creature.
The griffin has since 1660 been the symbol for Scania County’s coat of arms, in the very south of Sweden where HØEG is based.
